Secondary education - stage 1
Create your ideal school visit
Discover our wide range of educational activities and create a visit perfectly tailored to your class and learning goals. Choose from workshops adapted to your age group or explore independently with your pupils. Combine your own educational activity with a visit to the WOODlab. You can also make use of our educational materials to get the most out of a self-guided visit.
We recommend setting aside at least half a day — preferably a full day — so you can enjoy everything at a relaxed pace. Picnic areas are available at the Pachthof and the Orangery, including partially covered spaces. You can put together your own programme:
- one workshop (half-day visit)
- a self-guided visit
- a workshop in the morning and a self-guided visit in the afternoon
- two workshops — one in the morning and one in the afternoon
Browse the full offer and prices, make your selection, and book via the request form. Visiting with several classes? Please check in advance how many workshops can take place at the same time. Don’t forget to book in time — at least four weeks before your visit. Reservations are also required for self-guided visits.
Workshops
Experience the biomes
This workshop fits with the geography lessons on plant growth and climate. In the greenhouse, the students travel across the desert, the savannah and the tropical rainforest. Throughout the workshop, they must actively investigate and share their findings with one another. They become aware of the threats to which plant growth in different zones is exposed.
- Max. 25 pupils per class group
- Available all year round
- Duration: 2 hours
- Max. 3 workshops at the same time
Educational Nature Management
Working for half a day in and for nature with your class? You can do this in the Botanic Garden! The students receive a short theoretical explanation about the how and why of nature management. After that they will start working by themselves. They remove invasive plants and create wooded banks.
- Max. 25 pupils per class group
- Available all year round
- Duration: 2 hours
- Max. 2 workshops at the same time
Self-guided visit
Are you exploring Meise Botanic Garden with your class as a teacher? During a self-guided visit, you can make use of a wide range of educational materials available for rental to support your visit. You will find an overview below.
Geography GPS Quest
Would you like your pupils to develop geography skills in an adventurous way? Then our GPS quest is the perfect choice. Using the Baludik app, pupils follow an interactive group walk between different locations based on GPS coordinates. Along the way, they complete assignments such as soil analysis, measuring slope gradients, or carrying out a CO₂-related task.
An educational staff member provides an introduction beforehand, after which the pupils continue independently without an animator. The teacher remains responsible for supervising the groups.
- Maximum 25 pupils per class group; 1 fully charged smartphone required per group of 3–5 pupils
- Available all year round, per half day
- Duration: approximately 2 hours
- Maximum 3 classes at the same time
- Return to the ticket desk
Biotic Relationships Assignment
During this activity, pupils investigate relationships between plants and other organisms through observations in the Botanical Garden. The activity takes place both in the Plant Palace and outdoors. The teacher prepares the activity in advance; all required materials are printed at school and brought along.

Habitat Study Kits
Our habitat study kits contain instruments to measure temperature, soil and air humidity, and light intensity. Using the pH test kit, pupils can determine the acidity of soil or water. Each kit also includes identification guides to help recognise and name plants and animals. There are plenty of habitats to explore: in Wild Meise, the natural area of the Botanical Garden, you will find wet and dry grasslands, marshes, forests, streams, and ponds.
