Meise Botanic Garden – FWO fellowships

Meise Botanic Garden plays an important role in Flemish and European research on diversity and ex-situ conservation of plants. It has built up unique expertise in these domains. This expertise is supplemented by very valuable and internationally recognized scientific collections and data sets. Meise Botanic Garden is active in several national and international research programs, and is collaborating with nearly all Flemish universities. Meise Botanic Garden is aiming at further strengthening this collaboration with Flemish universities, with focus on collection-based biodiversity and conservation research.

Meise Botanic Garden is therefore committing itself, to finance one postdoctoral fellowship in the 2020 call and, depending on available financial means, one or two doctoral fellowships (fundamental research or strategic basic research). The number of available fellowships will be decided upon each year.

This ambition is established in a collaboration protocol between the FWO and Meise Botanic Garden, thus creating the doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships "Meise Botanic Garden - FWO". These fellowships, including bench fee, are financed by Meise Botanic Garden. The fellowships fit in the regular doctoral and postdoctoral programs of the FWO, and applications are submitted and evaluated in the concerned calls for proposals. The collaboration starts from the fellowships starting in 2020.

Only regular FWO call fellowship applications at which Meise Botanic Garden has agreed to act as an additional host institute, and that were approved by FWO but could not be financed, are eligible for a fellowship "Meise Botanic Garden - FWO".

Through an agreement/contract between the fellow and the FWO, these fellowships are subject to the FWO regulations for doctoral resp. postdoctoral fellowships. Meise Botanic Garden draws up an collaboration agreement with the main host institute involved.
