[Science News] – Wanted: Enthusiastic growers and seed distributors who want to start growing native seeds

Wed 28 Jan

Native plant species play a crucial role in healthy ecosystems because they are better adapted to local conditions. They are closely aligned with pollinators, soil life, and other species, and therefore form an essential foundation for successful nature conservation and ecosystem restoration. Unfortunately, the availability of seeds of these species in Belgium is currently almost non-existent.

We want to change that. In 2025, the Viaverda practice centre took a first step within the Interreg North Sea project EXPBIO by propagating several native plant species. To further develop this initiative, the Flemish Land Agency (VLM) and Meise Botanic Garden are now launching this joint call.

We are looking for motivated growers and seed distributors who would like to contribute to building a local supply of native seeds.

Would you like to help strengthen the availability of native seeds in Flanders? We would love to hear from you.
