In short, I have a passion for biodiversity overall and the ecological functioning of ecosystems both on spatial and temporal scales. I completed a PhD on multitaxa biodiversity in European agroforestry systems and this work is still being continued at a slow rate as I remain involved in the Flemish agroforestry consortium.
My current research focuses on how urbanization and microclimatic variation shape plant and soil fauna community compositions, phenology and functional traits, with particular attention to the urban heat effect, within the framework of the FOURCAST project. As such, this allows to place plant responses within a broader ecological context. By integrating historical data with contemporary field observations and microclimate monitoring, my work aims to unravel the mechanisms through which cities alter biodiversity across multiple levels, and to reveal how nature adapts to the challenges of a warming and increasingly urbanized world.
