The Botanic Garden has a long tradition in the field of botanical illustration. One of the pioneers in this discipline was Hélène Durand.

Creating botanical drawings is an art that requires specific techniques, knowledge, and exceptional precision. Today, we have a dedicated team of illustrators who work in close collaboration with our scientists: Omer Van de Kerckhove, Antonio Fernandez, Sven Bellanger, and Liliane Tytens. We also occasionally call on freelance illustrators, such as Marijke Meersman. They produce outstanding, timeless representations — a true meeting point between art and science. Their illustrations are featured in the Botanic Garden’s publications.
