His work operates at the nexus of scientific precision and visual storytelling, bridging the gap between rigorous botanical research and impactful communication. As a certified scientific illustrator and graphic designer, he is tasked with visualizing the vast biodiversity of the plant world by translating complex taxonomic data into clear, aesthetically refined, and scientifically accurate imagery.
Scientific Illustration
With meticulous precision, he produces morphological illustrations for renowned publications such as the new official Flora of Belgium and various scientific journals. In close collaboration with taxonomists and researchers, he captures and—where necessary—accentuates the essential diagnostic features of new or rare species. His pen-and-ink drawings reveal morphological nuances that are often difficult to document or convey otherwise.
Graphic Design & Visual Identity
Expanding beyond the drawing board, Sven develops the visual identity for institutional projects and publications, ensuring a seamless harmony between scientific rigor and contemporary aesthetics. He designs the graphic framework for a wide array of media, including annual reports, scientific posters and educational materials. Additionally, as a member of the Publications Committee, he is responsible for the design, artistic guidance, and production follow-up of scientific books and specialized publications.
Science Communication
By combining artistic insight with botanical knowledge, he successfully makes abstract scientific concepts accessible to a broad audience while maintaining strict scientific integrity.
