My research explores the long-term impacts of habitat fragmentation on forest understory plants, with a focus on broad-leaved enchanter's nightshade (Circaea lutetiana) and true lover’s knot (Paris quadrifolia). I investigate whether these species exhibit an extinction debt, where populations appear stable today but are actually in a time-delayed decline due to past environmental change. In addition, I examine how landscape structure and climatic conditions shape genetic makeup of these species. By integrating ecological and genomic approaches, I aim to connect past and present environmental conditions to current demographic and genetic patterns.
