Summer beauty

Orangery plants

The Botanic Garden has a long tradition of growing orangery plants. We have been taking care of more than 150 of these plants, which are kept inside during the winter and outside during the summer, for decades. In the 19th century, special buildings were erected to overwinter these plants. They are called 'orangeries', after the orange tree or orange. The Botanic Garden has an extensive collection of citrus plants, but you will also discover palm trees and many other Mediterranean or subtropical plants. Some are over 100 years old!

Our gardeners care for and move these beauties with great patience and skill. They all go outside in mid-May, and back inside in mid-October. The tubs are made in the garden itself from acetylated wood, a durable and ecological material.
