Maples

While the Asian varieties are central, in Meise you can also find about 60 maple trees from all over the world. The maples can be admired between the Meise Village Entrance and the Rose Garden. In addition to the extensive collection of cultivated varieties of the Japanese maple (Acer palmatum), there are also a number of botanical rarities such as the Japanese red maple (Acer pycnanthum). The sugar maple (Acer saccharum) was given a particularly special place. This tree was on the first transatlantic flight from Montreal to Brussels in 1958 and Trans-Canada Air Lines donated it to the Botanic Garden.

Admire the diversity in leaf shapes and fruits, or go in search of the snake bark maple (Acer pensylvanicum). And don't forget to enjoy the beautiful autumn colours!
